The Cables

I wanted to see how the clear the trail was to Half Dome, and so I went up there this morning with no intention of climbing the cable portion.  I didn't do the cable portion (I'm too scared to hand over hand them by myself) but it was snow free the whole way and here is a photo of Half Dome with no one on it.  Its a little sad that the cables aren't up as soon as possible to allow earlier than summer access which would also eliminate some of the crowding.  Enjoy these postcards.

In Rainbows

Up the 4 mile again today with Bryan S. and this time we crossed the snowfield.  Here's some snapshots of the lower Falls view in rainbows.  Enjoy.

Upper Falls Views

Here's some views of the Upper Yosemite Falls trail that puts it in perspective a little more.  These were taken today from the good old four mile trail.  Enjoy.

Ontario Peak above Ontario, CA

A couple weeks ago we were on vacation down south in Upland and I was able to make a quick side trip one Sunday morning up to Ontario Peak.  There was a little snow crossing towards Kelly Camp, then 10 minutes spent wandering around having lost the trail.  I went up (knowing I wasn't near or at the summit, the trail must continue up somehow) and found the trail for the last few miles to the top.  At the top is a nice bottle opener for those enjoying the summit in high fashion.  I didn't find or bring a 9:03 am summit beer, so I turned around and headed down.  The second snapshot is from one of the notch's along the summit ridge.  It was a hazy shade of winter out that March 24th day.  Enjoy.

Moraine Dome

Its taken me a couple weeks after this hike to post something, but indeed we did summit.  A small stroll off the trail the final mile through the snow took us right up to the dome- with great views of the the Merced River Canyon and the back side of Liberty Cap and skyscrapers and everything else.  It was a good time.  Can you find Shane in the two pictures?  Enjoy the two postcards from our trip.
